Pam

Pam is a fully qualified Specialist Teacher and Assessor with twenty years’ experience of working with children, students and adults in schools, universities and at Dyslexia Action.

Pam’s background and experience has led her to finding ways for dyslexics to fulfill their potential.  She is a great believer in the power and creativity of technology in meeting this aim and particularly loves to research how technology can help.

Her initial degree was a BA (hons) in German followed by a career in retail management before taking time out to raise her 4 children, one of whom was diagnosed with dyslexia.   Pam obtained a Masters’ degree in Computer Based Learning/Training in 1996 and a PGCE in Information Technology in 2000.  She subsequently taught IT to secondary school students specialising in Special Needs towards the end of a five-year period.  In 2005, she was awarded a Post Graduate Certificate in Dyslexia and Literacy and the Certificate of Competence in Educational Testing (CCET) in 2010.

Since 2005, most of Pam’s experience has been as a teacher, course tutor on the PG Certificate in Dyslexia and Literacy and assessor at Dyslexia Action where she was the Senior Teacher and then Principal at the Bath and Bristol Centres for 7 years.  Pam’s role at Dyslexia Action was varied and interesting.  She was in the privileged position of being the first port of call for anxious parents and adults who did not know which way to turn to make sense of their child’s, or their own, strengths and weaknesses.  Pam was the key provider of Specialist Teacher assessments including full diagnostic and planning assessments for children, students and adults as well as Exam Access Arrangements for GCSE and A level students.

Pam is a member of the Dyslexia Guild (MDG) and she has an up to date Assessment Practising Certificate (APC code: 0310/232).  She undertakes Continuous Professional Development as approved by the SpLD Assessment Standards Committee (SASC) http://www.sasc.org.uk/Assessors.aspx)

Pam has a current Enhanced Certificate with the Disclosure and Barring Service.
